Prayer for Self-Control

Yahweh, I come before you in prayer, to magnify and glorify your precious name. Draw close to me, Oh heavenly Father. Lead me, guide me, walk beside me. Shape me into whom You want me to be. May I have the self-control to achieve all that you have in store for me.

Allow Your will to be done in my life in order for me to become a living, breathing testimony. Take control, Oh Lord, Jesus, be the center.

Psalm 119:11 Your word I have hidden in my heart, that I might not sin against You.

Philippians 2:13for it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose.

Displaying self-control when tempted

Fill me with Your Holy Spirit, Lord. Allow me to display self-control when temptations draw near. Help me to resist whatever comes my way.

Make me pure, holy and true when Lucifer tries to intervene. Give me peace in my mind, body and soul so that I can remain focused on You and Your word daily. Let your Word be the bread that I crave and want as much as the air that I breathe.

Galatians 5:16-18 I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish. But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.

1 Peter 4:7The end of all things is near. Therefore, be alert and of sober mind so that you may pray.

Control of my emotions, thoughts and actions

Let lustful desires, anger, guilt, jealousy, sorrow and pride just fall away at the sound of Your great name. May these things not control my actions, my emotions or even my thoughts.

Heavenly Father, please forgive me for the times I have said and done things rashly. Please remind me to consider self-control as “God-control”.

Self-control is not trying to control myself with human effort. But rather it is depending on the Holy Spirit to guide my ways and choices.

Oh Lord, I continually desire to seek You. Give me the strength to overcome. Without you, I cannot go on, I need You, Oh loving Father. I declare and decree that temptations will not get the better of me, in Jesus’ mighty name, Amen.

Praying the Scriptures – Prayer for Self Control (1 Corinthians 9:24-27)

Heavenly Father, I’ve been to the stadium, I’ve watched the races on television. I’ve seen the athletes race. And while everyone runs, only one wins. Run to win.

All good athletes train hard. They do it for a gold medal that tarnishes and fades. Lord, I know that I race for a reward that lasts forever.

And so Lord, I am running hard towards the finish line. I’m giving it everything I’ve got. I’m staying alert and in top condition. I’m clothing myself in the armor of God.

I’m not going to get caught napping, telling everyone else all about the good news and then missing out myself. Thank you oh lord for blessing me with the self-control to continue and not give up. In Jesus name I pray, Amen.
